The Guests will arrive to the Reception area before the Bride, the Groom , or the Wedding Party. This part of the Reception is referred to as the Cocktail Hour. While the music playing for what is hopefully a brief period before the arrival of the Bride, Groom, and Wedding Party may seem inconsequential, it has a very relevant effect on the mood of the Guests. Mid-tempo songs that are not too exciting or too boring with happy subject matter have the most positive effect. While it is not necessary for the Bride and Groom to choose all of the songs that will play during the Cocktail hour, they are welcome to. Most couples choose a type of music to be played such as "Love Songs", "Instrumental Jazz", or "Big Band". Some couples choose three or four songs they'd like to be played and leave the rest to the DJ's discretion.
